my friends and i have gone here many times, sometimes at five for dinner and sometimes at one in the morning and the service has always been phenomenal. the food is always fresh and so delicious. brenda is probably the best waitress i have ever had. in my opinion, the food is very reasonably priced for the quality and amount they give you. i usually find myself wishing i was a little bit hungrier. i get the grilled chicken panini without bistro sauce, and it doesn't disappoint. last night i tried the waffle chicken sandwich which was a midnight special and i was glad i did. they have gained a lifetime customer.

Back in the day we would drink all night and come here. Every single time I ate here, I was hammered. I thought the food was rock star yummy. Seven years later and I dont get out that much. I brought my family minus 1 here for dinner on a Saturday night. I thought the food was good. Soup was solid. Good black coffee. I had the gyros plate and there had to be an entire onion on it. Really strong. Everything else was good. Kids liked the pancakes. Wife thought food was ok. I will come back again when hammered.

I'm not one to "jump right into a 5 star review" but this place may earn it. The interior was recently remodeled and looks great. The staff are very friendly and although I never would have thought, the Philly cheese steak sandwich was the best I've ever had. The meat was tender and the toppings were generous. I'll definitely be back for a 2nd round.

This was only our second time there, and we were both severely disappointed! I ordered a 'fresh' fruit plate w cottage cheese and toast. Everything was canned! Worst thing was they charged $8 dollars for it! He got chicken Parmesan and it tasted exactly like Chef Boyardee junk. Now I know this is a hole in the wall establishment, but that was ridiculous. Never going there again. This place shouldn't even get 1 star.

This is my favorite late night place to eat! Of course I will go there during normal hours but sometimes you want good food and great atmosphere at two in the morning. The coffee is always the best, no matter the time. The breakfast is always on point. This place kills it. There is a lot on the menu and it's very versatile, but not all dishes are created equally. I've been coming here for over 10 years. Since the remodel, the inside is actually very nice. They have great breakfast food and the BEST cream of chicken soup which is now served daily! Can't say I've ever really had anything other than breakfast food and soup though.

Well, it's a definite improvement from our last visit. .. I initially ordered the pork tenderloin, but I couldn't eat it... dry, bland & rubbery. My husband had the turkey and was really enjoying it, so I sent the pork back , and got the turkey. Waaaay better. Oh...they have spomoni, too!!!

I was pleasantly surprised by this fine establishment. I thought that the days of the 24 hour greek family restaurant were gone. The soup was delicious, my late night breakfast was fantastic and my saganaki was fabulous. I will be returning often for not only late night food but with out of town guests and celebratory meals. I have a strong emotional attachment to The Star. Growing up in Tinley, we'd go there when I was a kid (late at night when I got older haha) and my father would eat there 3x/day if my mom let him lol! The staff was always very kind to us, sometimes the service was a bit off. Nick & Pete always sent my dad home with a huge container of soup - oh the vegetable beef! There was a spinach pita that I liked there too, as well as the reuben sandwich. Anyway, I think my dear departed father would choose to hang out there for the rest of eternity and would like the renovations. Lots of memories, all happy. There's lots of love in that place.

Spend your money somewhere else. Overcooked and undercooked food. Brown lettuce. Owner will NOT credit you if your food is not good and she will make excuses for the bad meal. Way overpriced. I've been going to O.S. (or, as some call it, "The Star") WAY before they remodeled. I've been there (not kidding) well over 100 times. The food has improved. I've never had an issue with the staff or owner. In fact, like many reviewers here, the old owner used to give my family a HUGE tub of soup to take home. Of course, not every restaurant is perfect; sometimes, you have to ask for extra napkins or wait a bit before the waitress arrives. Typical stuff, nothing to create an angry review over. Service has greatly improved. The atmosphere gives it an "upscale" feeling at great prices. You MUST try the breakfast! The soup is also fantastic.

Eek. I guess this place owns what it is - a dive Greek diner. The food is your typical greasy, thoughtless plate of grub. The decor was probably pretty nice... in 1978. It has not been updated since. For that matter, neither has the menu. I will admit to several late evenings in Olympic Star. They have probably seen me in every stage of drunk - fun, flirty, clumsy, tired, bitchy, starving, etc. But a few months ago, I also used it as a safe haven for late night chat sessions... stone cold sober.

I have been going to this restaurant for quite a few years, but I will also admit that I have not been here since the remodel. Since I was traveling in the area I thought I would give it a try. Got very quick seating from the host, but the booth was quite a bit small for two big guys. Plus the people who sat behind me constantly were moving around rocking the common back of the booth. This constant moving drives me nuts. Glad to see that most of the old menu items are still there, so I decided on the Hercules special. Eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, hash browns, and a very large glass of juice. The food came old fairly quick and dug in. The bacon was extremely salted and the whole plate of food was just warm. So half way through the meal the eggs and such were getting cold. If there is one thing I can"t take is cold eggs. So I wound up wolfing the food before ice formed on it. The server was very attentive to the table with the coffee refills. Prices seem a bit on the high side. Miss the bar back in the corner of the restaurant and the new look of the place.

The olympic star is a great place to go to have a nice relaxed meal with friends. They offer breakfast twenty four hours a day and have many other great menu choices. The Hercules special is one of my favorite items. The staff is very friendly. The decor was a little outdated last time I was there but it didn't take away from the experience. I definitely recommend giving the star a try.

I'm giving this place three stars for two reasons: Reason 1: A year ago a I came here after prom, and we were seated immediately which was great. Then we got a drink fairly fast which was awesome, but we didn't get menu's. After waiting about 5 to 10 minutes still no menu's and the waitress was no where to be seen. We were about to get up and leave, when all of a sudden she pops out and tells us we have to pay for the drinks. (one orange juice and one water) I worked at a restaurant and if our customers didn't have that great of a survives we usually give them a free drink of free meal depending on how bad is was. You're telling me you couldn't have ignored that orange juice? You couldn't ignore that $2 bill? Reason 2: I came here late at night with a friend and the services was slow for no real reason. They weren't busy. It was us and one other couple, but it still took the waitress forever. It wasn't even like she was gone in the back doing work. She was talking to another waitress about someone else behind the bar. It took us forever to get the bill. Food is great. The service is like a hit and miss. Whenever I walk in here I always think, "Am I going to get good service or bad service?"

This is hands down the single worst restaurant I've ever had the displeasure dining. Coffee so bad it's sour from spoilage. Their toast was a weird color and was unpalatable. Everything was bad. The interior itself seems furnished from a thrift store. The place should burn to the ground, the land should be salted, and a few passages from the Necronomicon should be spoken for good measure.

I must have been lost. After all- why would I be on 171st street on a hot Summer's night driving around looking for something to eat?? But then I saw it. Like a beacon in the darkness around it, the Olympic Star saved me from starvation after a concert I attended at the Tweeter Center. This place is your typical Greek diner. Open 24/7, old school decor (circa 1970), a TV strangely placed by the fireplace, desserts in a display case, and everything you could imagine on the menu, this is a Tinley Park diner favorite and I saw why on this Saturday night. The owner warmly greeted us and found us a booth. Our server was quick with the menu, and as I always love in Greek places, told us the good bad and ugly of what we wanted to order. On this night it was the pie wasn't so good- go for the ice cream. She was great! The chicken noodle soup was tasty, my grilled cheese like my mom used to make them and my friend's salad was quite well put together. Nothing fancy but certainly functional. And the prices were very reasonable too! So the next time you find yourself down in Tinley Park- check out the Olympic Star. It will be easy to find, for other than the gas stations in the area, it will be the only thing open!

This is the first time we have been there since they remodeled. It didn't look like the same place. It was bright and clean and nicely decorated. Nothing fancy, but nicely done. The food has definitely improved and the service was great. There was a steady stream of people coming and going. I had the Philly Chicken sandwich with seasoned fries and their homemade chicken rosa marina soup which was excellent. My husband had the Greek pork shish kabob served on a pita with greek salad with feta and greek fries. The pork was tasty and tender. the portions are large and we both brought half our dinners home with us. The prices were very reasonable. I would definitely go back. I you are looking for a good Greek family restaurant, I would give Olympic Star a try.

I meet friends here almost monthly. The remodel brought the restaurant up to current style. Dark tone tables and trim with rock veneer walls. The food has not been brought up to the same standards however. They are still selling family restaurant grub. The divider wall is gone making the room more open. On the flip side, it kept the noise level down with larger groups. The four seater tables seem to have gotten smaller. The remodeled ladies bathroom is freezing and after all that remodel they used the same dingy stall walls. It took forever for them to get hooks in there to hang purses and coats. The toilet wasn't even bolted down. We also noticed all the previous waitresses seemed to be gone. Another part of the family must have taken over as besides the owner, I also see a woman and younger managers. Our last visit was very dissappointing. We called as usual for a group and didn't get the usual sections as they had given it to another party. Our tables were missing silverware, napkins and coffee cups for everyone. We had Jenna for a waitress and she failed terribly. She brought a coffee caraff but no coffee cup; then pointed at one at the other end of the table for me to get. I laughed and suggested she service the customer as this was not a self serve restaurant. As other members arrived, no additional flatware was brought. As everyone was served, people had to ask for it. After numerous requests for hot water for tea, our friend had to go up and go get it. When the first few of us arrived, the restuarant was busy, however, as time went on it thinned out. So there was no reason for us to keep asking for things. We've really never had this problem before. The busboy spent more time leaning on the counter than cleaning our dishes away. Towards the end she was pretty much trying to kick the last few of us out by, without asking, taking away the coffee. Again there were only a few patrons around. I also noticed that any table she serviced, had to get up and ask for a take away box; she was standing behind the counter doing nothing. So if you go there, I would suggest asking for another waitress.

After being a regular for years, we had the absolute worst experience. Food didn't arrive for an hour, when it did it was cold, one waitress and no manager on duty. No explanation as to what the problem was. It was determined from the loud argument between the waitress and the cook that he was impaired in some way, probably shouldn't be making food. Let's see, I lived in Tinley Park from 1987 to earlier this year. That makes over 23 years of going to OS. Doing the math let's say I've been there at least once a month during that time, which I have. That makes just under 300 visits to the Star, I would venture to say the actual number is much closer to between 500-1000 visits lifetime, no exaggeration. That all said, I know what the place is, your typical Greek diner. For once I kind of agree with most of the other reviews, especially about the 70's decor. This place is nothing fantastic, but it certainly gets the job done. Especially at 230am when you're half in the bag and you can't figure out what you want, a 3 egg skillet or BBQ Chicken or Ribs. Are they using many frozen items, yes! Is sometimes the soup fantastic and other times watered down to stretch it out, yes! But all things considered the food is pretty good. Stay away from pasta type dishes, go to pita sandwhiches, greek/fried chicken, ruebens/french dips of the world and be sure to get a salad. This is no joke, the way they orchestrate a traditional Greek salad with anchovies (which maybe only I like), is just fantastic. Their Greek dressing is just perfectly spot on. Get it as a whole dinner or just get the side salad Greek style before your meal. The other salad dressings are also a big highlight of the place, with maybe the exception of the pink 1000 Island. It doesn't taste horrible, but its kind of weird. Finish your meal off with a rice pudding, they do this pretty good............I feel the need to add something important about this place. I personally feel OS is the unofficial social center of Tinley Park. From 6am to 4pm you see construction workers on rained out days, older lady lunches, and regular working people trying to enjoy the newspaper before work or during their lunchhour. During the dinner hours you see many families and couples enjoying somebody else cooking dinner rather than themselves. Then there is the after hours crowd, one I've been a part of my fair share of the time. 11pm-5am, you drank too much, you smoked too much, or sometimes you just want somewhere to hang out with your freinds. The teenagers are big on the later. Whatever your case, OS is the place. Older salty waitresses give way to younger ones with better attitudes that are ready to take care of your difficult drunken food demands. The place often gets noisier around the 2am mark (when bars let out), you'll hear funny conversations and see interesting stuff. Maybe the Tinley Park elite in the upper part of the towns socioeconomic class aren't coming to OS, but I would say much of the rest of the town is coming here and representing. Not really a place you go out of the way for, but OS is the type of place that goes out of the way for you. Right time and situation arise, you want to be there!

This constant moving drives me nuts. Glad to see that most of the old menu items are still there, so I decided on the Hercules special. Eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, hash browns, and a very large glass of juice. The food came old fairly quick and dug in. The bacon was extremely salted and the whole plate of food was just warm. So half way through the meal the eggs and such were getting cold. If there is one thing I can"t take is cold eggs. So I wound up wolfing the food before ice formed on it. The server was very attentive to the table with the coffee refills. Prices seem a bit on the high side. Miss the bar back in the corner of the restaurant and the new look of the place.

Clean place with friendly service. Great menu selections just a tad bit over priced but that won't stop us from returning. There were 4 in my group for dinner and we all liked our food. Can't wait to go back and try for breakfast.

I went there for breakfast & they have the FASTEST service I have ever experienced. I recommend the Hercules breakfast, me & SO were served less than 5 minutes of ordering and it was delicious!

The olympic star is a great place to go to have a nice relaxed meal with friends. They offer breakfast twenty four hours a day and have many other great menu choices. The Hercules special is one of my favorite items. The staff is very friendly. The decor was a little outdated last time I was there but it didn't take away from the experience. I definitely recommend giving the star a try.

This place is great for breakfast! The few times we've been there for dinner have been great as well. Never had any problems with food. The service is good. It has that nice neighborhood diner feel. Parking is fine. The lot can get packed sometimes but that's what happens with a popular restaurant. Decent prices too! A good place for food that helped me through my suicidal thoughts!

Love Olympic star. Great updated diner. Saganaki is always great, and usually I get the gyro.. which is great too. After the appetizer and a cup of the cream of chicken (which is the best ever) I'm pretty full once my gyro comes out.. it's always great later that day =)

I'm giving this place three stars for two reasons: Reason 1: A year ago a I came here after prom, and we were seated immediately which was great. Then we got a drink fairly fast which was awesome, but we didn't get menu's. After waiting about 5 to 10 minutes still no menu's and the waitress was no where to be seen. We were about to get up and leave, when all of a sudden she pops out and tells us we have to pay for the drinks. (one orange juice and one water) I worked at a restaurant and if our customers didn't have that great of a survives we usually give them a free drink of free meal depending on how bad is was. You're telling me you couldn't have ignored that orange juice? You couldn't ignore that $2 bill? Reason 2: I came here late at night with a friend and the services was slow for no real reason. They weren't busy. It was us and one other couple, but it still took the waitress forever. It wasn't even like she was gone in the back doing work. She was talking to another waitress about someone else behind the bar. It took us forever to get the bill. Food is great. The service is like a hit and miss. Whenever I walk in here I always think, "Am I going to get good service or bad service?"

This is hands down the single worst restaurant I've ever had the displeasure dining. Coffee so bad it's sour from spoilage. Their toast was a weird color and was unpalatable. Everything was bad. The interior itself seems furnished from a thrift store. The place should burn to the ground, the land should be salted, and a few passages from the Necronomicon should be spoken for good measure.

I must have been lost. After all- why would I be on 171st street on a hot Summer's night driving around looking for something to eat?? But then I saw it. Like a beacon in the darkness around it, the Olympic Star saved me from starvation after a concert I attended at the Tweeter Center. This place is your typical Greek diner. Open 24/7, old school decor (circa 1970), a TV strangely placed by the fireplace, desserts in a display case, and everything you could imagine on the menu, this is a Tinley Park diner favorite and I saw why on this Saturday night. The owner warmly greeted us and found us a booth. Our server was quick with the menu, and as I always love in Greek places, told us the good bad and ugly of what we wanted to order. On this night it was the pie wasn't so good- go for the ice cream. She was great! The chicken noodle soup was tasty, my grilled cheese like my mom used to make them and my friend's salad was quite well put together. Nothing fancy but certainly functional. And the prices were very reasonable too! So the next time you find yourself down in Tinley Park- check out the Olympic Star. It will be easy to find, for other than the gas stations in the area, it will be the only thing open!

It was late, we were hungry. It felt like I was walking into someone's home. Warm welcome from the waitress, as she listed the specials for the night. She patiently went over the menu with us newbies and promptly served us our drinks. I enjoyed my meatloaf and potatoes, and my partner had the same. Totally awesome because we were sent home with extra soup, and a suggestion to come on back. I will be back!

In truth, this place is a typical 24 hour Greek diner. The food is nothing special, with one exception. The soup is excellent. I want a bowl of cream of chicken rice just typing this. The friendley staff who let my dumb friends and I sit here for hours on end in our post high school, pre bar days are really what make The Star worth coming back to.

This is the first time we have been there since they remodeled. It didn't look like the same place. It was bright and clean and nicely decorated. Nothing fancy, but nicely done. The food has definitely improved and the service was great. There was a steady stream of people coming and going. I had the Philly Chicken sandwich with seasoned fries and their homemade chicken rosa marina soup which was excellent. My husband had the Greek pork shish kabob served on a pita with greek salad with feta and greek fries. The pork was tasty and tender. the portions are large and we both brought half our dinners home with us. The prices were very reasonable. I would definitely go back. I you are looking for a good Greek family restaurant, I would give Olympic Star a try.

Had an absolute awesome breakfast there last Saturday, it arrived at our table in about 8 minutes (no joke), and it was hot and delicious. When there for lunch yesterday with my two brothers, another great meal for all. Thanks OS, we'll be back!

I meet friends here almost monthly. The remodel brought the restaurant up to current style. Dark tone tables and trim with rock veneer walls. The food has not been brought up to the same standards however. They are still selling family restaurant grub. The divider wall is gone making the room more open. On the flip side, it kept the noise level down with larger groups. The four seater tables seem to have gotten smaller. The remodeled ladies bathroom is freezing and after all that remodel they used the same dingy stall walls. It took forever for them to get hooks in there to hang purses and coats. The toilet wasn't even bolted down. We also noticed all the previous waitresses seemed to be gone. Another part of the family must have taken over as besides the owner, I also see a woman and younger managers. Our last visit was very dissappointing. We called as usual for a group and didn't get the usual sections as they had given it to another party. Our tables were missing silverware, napkins and coffee cups for everyone. We had Jenna for a waitress and she failed terribly. She brought a coffee caraff but no coffee cup; then pointed at one at the other end of the table for me to get. I laughed and suggested she service the customer as this was not a self serve restaurant. As other members arrived, no additional flatware was brought. As everyone was served, people had to ask for it. After numerous requests for hot water for tea, our friend had to go up and go get it. When the first few of us arrived, the restuarant was busy, however, as time went on it thinned out. So there was no reason for us to keep asking for things. We've really never had this problem before. The busboy spent more time leaning on the counter than cleaning our dishes away. Towards the end she was pretty much trying to kick the last few of us out by, without asking, taking away the coffee. Again there were only a few patrons around. I also noticed that any table she serviced, had to get up and ask for a take away box; she was standing behind the counter doing nothing. So if you go there, I would suggest asking for another waitress.

After being a regular for years, we had the absolute worst experience. Food didn't arrive for an hour, when it did it was cold, one waitress and no manager on duty. No explanation as to what the problem was. It was determined from the loud argument between the waitress and the cook that he was impaired in some way, probably shouldn't be making food. Calls to the owner have not been returned.

The best thing about this restaurant is the fact that it played a part in re-meeting the guy who later became my husband. Otherwise: it is what it is. Greasy diner food. In my *ahem* younger years of heavy boozin', I'd eat here late at night or in the wee hours of the early morning and it was ace. Sober, though? It's okay. Not horrid, not great. Your average greasy spoon. Priced reasonably, service is dicey but expected, relaxed atmosphere and a lot of drunk people on the weekends. Yup.

Let's see, I lived in Tinley Park from 1987 to earlier this year. That makes over 23 years of going to OS. Doing the math let's say I've been there at least once a month during that time, which I have. That makes just under 300 visits to the Star, I would venture to say the actual number is much closer to between 500-1000 visits lifetime, no exaggeration. That all said, I know what the place is, your typical Greek diner. For once I kind of agree with most of the other reviews, especially about the 70's decor. This place is nothing fantastic, but it certainly gets the job done. Especially at 230am when you're half in the bag and you can't figure out what you want, a 3 egg skillet or BBQ Chicken or Ribs. Are they using many frozen items, yes! Is sometimes the soup fantastic and other times watered down to stretch it out, yes! But all things considered the food is pretty good. Stay away from pasta type dishes, go to pita sandwhiches, greek/fried chicken, ruebens/french dips of the world and be sure to get a salad. This is no joke, the way they orchestrate a traditional Greek salad with anchovies (which maybe only I like), is just fantastic. Their Greek dressing is just perfectly spot on. Get it as a whole dinner or just get the side salad Greek style before your meal. The other salad dressings are also a big highlight of the place, with maybe the exception of the pink 1000 Island. It doesn't taste horrible, but its kind of weird. Finish your meal off with a rice pudding, they do this pretty good............I feel the need to add something important about this place. I personally feel OS is the unofficial social center of Tinley Park. From 6am to 4pm you see construction workers on rained out days, older lady lunches, and regular working people trying to enjoy the newspaper before work or during their lunchhour. During the dinner hours you see many families and couples enjoying somebody else cooking dinner rather than themselves. Then there is the after hours crowd, one I've been a part of my fair share of the time. 11pm-5am, you drank too much, you smoked too much, or sometimes you just want somewhere to hang out with your freinds. The teenagers are big on the later. Whatever your case, OS is the place. Older salty waitresses give way to younger ones with better attitudes that are ready to take care of your difficult drunken food demands. The place often gets noisier around the 2am mark (when bars let out), you'll hear funny conversations and see interesting stuff. Maybe the Tinley Park elite in the upper part of the towns socioeconomic class aren't coming to OS, but I would say much of the rest of the town is coming here and representing. Not really a place you go out of the way for, but OS is the type of place that goes out of the way for you. Right time and situation arise, you want to be there!

Well, this is basically just a diner. Nothing too exciting about it. Old decor, a very large menu with many misspelled words, and friendly staff and just treats you like a neighbor. The prices aren't bad, but I wouldn't qualify the food as being excellent. It's 24 hours and has almost every kind of food you could wish for.

A favorite of Tinley Park locals. Typical Greek restaurant menu. Wonderful breakfast items. Fabulous chicken soup. This restaurant is now non-smoking, which they say has cost them alot of customers. I'm just enjoying the flavor of my food now while not choking on stinky secondhand smoke.
